Spring Torment Blue

Limited Edition | 2014

DESCRIPTION

This image was created in 2014, at Cape Tormentine, New Brunswick.

Stylistically, it epitomizes the type of image I prefer to create: atypical subject; negative space; simple, uncluttered, monochromatic background; and, a general sense of emptiness or loneliness.

Why Spring Torment Blue? It's Spring for the season and Blue for the colour, while Torment is a reference to Cape Tormentine, where the image was captured.

Torment also refers to the struggle between humanity and nature, with the breakwater symbolizing man's vain attempts to tame and control the sea. It refers to the contrast between the man-made and the natural, with the hard lines and sharp edges of the stone and concrete structure in opposition to the soft, smooth sea and sky. It refers to the clash of seasons as the bitter, harsh cold of winter, denoted by the rim of ice still clinging to the rocks, cedes to summer and its gentle, warm embrace. And it refers to the artist and his torment as he struggles to focus, to define his vision, and to develop a style that embodies his creativity, his art, and his self.

Print Information

Spring Torment Blue is a limited edition fine art photographic print. The edition size is limited to a total of 5 copies (4 copies publicly available), after which it will no longer be available for sale at these dimensions. All copies are numbered and signed by the photographer on the front, immediately beneath the image.

The image is printed on acid and lignin-free cotton rag paper using pigment inks, producing an archival quality giclée print.

Unframed copies are sold without mat or backing boards. Overall paper size is approximately 2 inches larger on all sides, providing flexibility for mat and framing options.

Framed copies are sold with a one inch black gallery frame. The mat opening is slightly larger than the image, leaving the edition number and artist's signature visible. All mat and backing materials are archival quality. The print is mounted behind UV-protected conservation glass. Overall dimensions as framed are 31.5 x 24.25 inches.
