Series - Open Edition Fine Art Prints
Along the Marsh is an ongoing series of fine art landscape prints. Although presented separately, this series may be considered as a companion to, or extension of, the series On the Marsh, Tantramar Storms, and Tantramar Lines.
The Tantramar marshes, just outside of Sackville, New Brunswick, have been a favourite destination of mine for several years. I first photographed the area in 1996, and have returned to it regularly since 2006. I've captured the scenery in all four seasons, at all times of day, and in various types of weather.
For many photographers, amateur and professional alike, images of the Tantramar marshes draw on such iconic subjects as the covered bridge or the few remaining marsh hay barns. I am not averse to making them my primary focus. However, for me, the marshes offer both minimalism and a study in the evolution of a subject (by capturing it in various conditions of light, weather, and season). The dirt roads, swales, fence lines, and even the power lines (ever-present nuisances that can either compliment or spoil a shot depending on their location or my mood), add visual elements which are sometimes enhanced by water, snow, or tonal contrast.
While the other series (mentioned and linked to above) are built around fairly restrictive themes, this particular series is more general in nature. It's not intended to highlight specific elements such as storm clouds or swales. Instead, it simply gathers together a number of prints that fit the broader theme of the Tantramar marshes without meeting the more exacting criteria, look, or feel of those other collections. Further, the images are presented here in no specific order, grouped neither by subject nor date.
Additional prints will be added to Along the Marsh, either from existing archives or new work. Previews and links to further information will be listed here as they become available.
