Series - Limited Edition Fine Art Prints
Morning Fog is a series of eight fine art photographs. They were taken in October 2014 in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Ideally, I strive for minimalistic compositions enhanced by liberal amounts of negative space. This may be to present an alternate view of the subject or scene. It may be to isolate the subject from its surroundings. Or, it may be to create a near-blank canvas with which to emphasize colour, shape, and form. At times, the isolation is intended to evoke feelings of loneliness or emptiness, from the perspective of either the subject, the viewer, or both. For me, this series – prints #2 through #6 in particular - accomplishes all of these creative goals. Backlight silhouettes the ducks, removes fine detail, and separates them from the background. It reduces them to shape and form, both individually and as a group. The fog and calm waters create smooth canvasses, lightly textured with the brushstrokes of ripples and wakes. Black and white conversions enhance the naturally monochromatic light; only the ducks themselves provide sharp contrast to the flat and muted tones created by the morning fog and the soft, diffuse sunlight. Morning Fog #2, especially, highlights the feelings of loneliness, emptiness, and isolation – a small figure gliding through a featureless landscape, leaning in one direction but with no clear path, and no clear destination, in sight. A metaphor, perhaps, for the struggles we face in life and art.
The first two prints in the series are sized at 10 x 8 inches. The remainder are sized at 12 x 8 inches. All are offered as limited edition prints with a total run of 50.
